What They're Saying: The publication swooned over this bottling, calling it "broad and well-proportioned, with a vibrant iron spine buried in its dark fruit," and an utterly unsurprising success for an estate that has proven to be among "today's elite group of modern Left Bank properties."

The Story: The 2020 vintage was a challenging one in Bordeaux, with a wet spring segueing into a hot, dry summer. But the finest estates triumphed, thanks to old vines, enduring terroirs, and superior craft in the cellar, and 2020 emerged a success, the third outstanding vintage in a row for the vaunted region. Vintners were beside themselves with glee, and so were collectors. “I can’t think of a trilogy of vintages for Bordeaux like 2018, 2019 and 2020," gushed Christian Seely, the managing director of AXA Millesimes, which owns Pichon Baron. "The quality levels are almost identical." Seely has been instrumental in the steady rise of this house over the past two decades, along with Jean-René Matignon, the longtime, legendary winemaker who retired last year, and whose last vintages are a testament to the precision, focus, vibrancy, and depth that the name Pichon Baron has come to represent.
