Decanter was no less enamored of the 2018 vintage, awarding 100 points and calling it a "big, textured and complex wine" that, for all its depth and grandeur, is "taking it all in its stride."

As for the 2020 vintage, it earned 100-point scores from no less than 3 critics, among them The Wine Advocate, which described it as "broad and layered, with terrific concentrated, beautifully refined tannins and a long, penetrating finish."

It's a measure of Mouton's greatness that its "second wine," Le Petit Mouton, claimed 98 points for its 2020 vintage, with James Suckling hailing it as "velvety" and "soft," and that even a less-heralded vintage, like 2017, nonetheless claimed the #37 spot on Suckling's Top 100 Wines of France 2020 (an "extremely refined” wine, he declared it, awarding 98 points).

As compelling as the numbers are, however, they simply cannot begin to convey the sheer profundity and majesty of these wines, nor their sinuous and transportive magic.
