The Story: In the 1990s, the Bonnie family, avid wine lovers from Belgium, took over the estate, re-planting (and expanding) the vineyards, modernizing the winery, and tapping Michel Rolland to come aboard as a consultant. The results have been nothing short of extraordinary, bringing a largely forgotten château onto the world stage. This is their Grand vin, and, particularly for its category (namely, Bordeaux that won't stretch your wallet), it has been among the most consistent and rewarding performers in the region for nearly two decades.
Specs: Cabernet Sauvignon predominates, with Merlot making up slightly more than a third of the blend, followed by trace amounts of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc for softening and definition. The wine aged for about 12 months in barrel.
Our Tasting Notes: A big and swaggering wine, in which every broad trait (aromatics, texture, depth, length) feels dialed up to the fullest. At the same time, it revels in its sensuality, making for a dynamic push-pull of an experience. This is a wine to savor, whether you're unwinding by a fire after a long, stressful day, or showing it off at a dinner party.
