As one of the older estates in the Médoc, with a history dating back to the 13th century, Château La Tour de Mons is in the middle of renaissance and is a remarkable buy compared to its iconic neighbors Château Margaux and Château Rauzan-Segla located just down the road. Classified as a Cru Bourgeois in 1936, it was not until the mid-1990s that a major renovation program occurred, including construction of a new winery and cellar. And with the hiring of renowned consultant Hubert de Bouard of Château Angelus, La Tour de Mons is now turning heads with impressive scores including today’s offer of the 94-point 2016 vintage—coming in at less than $25 per bottle for orders of 12 or more!

With vineyards lying in a single 48-hectare block, La Tour de Mons hand-harvests the grapes from vines averaging more than 30 years old. Planted 56% Merlot and 38% Cabernet Sauvignon on gravel and limestone-clay soils along the Garonne, the grapes are meticulously picked in passes and placed in separate stainless steel tanks, maintaining purity of fruit. Aged for 12 months in 40% new French oak, the wine is full of richness and depth with a “full body, velvety tannins and a long flavorful finish” (James Suckling).
