OUR TASTING NOTES: 

• The 2023 Pomerol opens with so much deep, dark fruit, and pulls you in swiftly and seductively; blackberry and mulberry set the foundation, then built into something more complex and interesting, as violet notes emerge like incense in an old church. What's fascinating is the way the 30% amphora aging has played out here, adding a dimension that's difficult to quantify, but which pays off in a texture that approaches velvet and a background note that speaks of wet stone. There’s a wonderful naturalness and ease to the winemaking here. Nothing feels forced; nothing seems engineered. Movement, flow, grace.
• The Duo speaks in a different dialect. It brings darker fruit with floral undertones that, wonderfully, and characteristically of this house, feel more like suggestions than statements. There's a surprising suppleness here, one that reminds you that second wines are not consolation prizes; better to think of them as different expressions of the same exceptional terroir. 

THE STORY: Marielle Cazaux's arrival in 2015 transformed La Conseillante from respected Pomerol estate into something no one saw coming: a purveyor of perfection. Her approach is a paean to controlled obsession: 16 distinct plots treated individually, multiple harvest passes, plot-by-plot vinification in 22 different concrete vats. Yet her philosophy remains refreshingly humble: “A great winegrower,” she says, “is a lazy winemaker.” That translates to minimal cellar intervention once perfect fruit arrives. The amphora experiment for 30% of the 2023 vintage reflects her willingness to push boundaries while respecting tradition. The result is on glorious display: a wine that honors its Pomerol terroir while exploring new possibilities of texture.

WHAT TO PAIR THEM WITH: The Pomerol is a serious, statement-making wine, and it deserves to be flanked by wine-friendly dishes that won’t shrink from the challenge of standing alongside them — duck confit, a long-cooked lamb shoulder, an osso bucco, a pot of braised short ribs. The Duo goes beautifully with a roast chicken, a wild mushroom or truffled pasta, or any charcuterie board.
