On all ends of the price spectrum, 2016 showed so much promise upon release and now two years later, I’m happy to say that the 2016s are certainly delivering. Though prices may have soared for the most notable producers in the region, it’s the opposite end of the spectrum that truly proving its worth. As everyone is searching for the biggest names around, it’s the under-the-radar producers that we’ve found to provide astounding value. So, for this reason, we looked to the ultimate value for our wine today – a 2016 Saint-Emilion that offers intensity, balance and depth that delivers way above its price point. 

Coming from Chateau Haut-Cadet – the most recent acquisition of Grand Corbin Manuel's Yseult de Gaye, one of the leading fresh faces of Bordeaux’s new generation – their 2016 is sourced from 19 hectares of Grand Cru vineyards. Located only a short distance away from Cheval Blanc in the northwest of Saint-Emilion near Pomerol, the soils here are comprised of sand and clay with vines that are an average of 25 years old. Dominated by Merlot with a small amount of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, the blend offers the wine an incredibly rich, supple texture along with a dense structure that has it set for at least a decade’s worth of enjoyment.  

Voluminous and richly scented with black currants, raspberry, graphite and cedar, this 91-92 point Saint-Emilion is as good as it gets when it comes to Bordeaux value.
