"Pure magic ... wines don't get much better."
So wrote Jeb Dunnuck of the 99-point 2016 Château d’Yquem, in what is assuredly not a hot take. Is in fact the exact opposite of a hot take.
And this isn’t the 2016 that you may have seen on ours and others’ shelves. It’s a new release, and comes in a celebratory château gift box that honors the beauty within.
This is a celestial expression, truly, an experience at once sacred and decadent, in which the lines between wine and art become blurred. The ambrosial aromas, the rich sensuality, the length seemingly without end – it truly is transport in a glass.

More than just one of the most widely revered estates in the world, it has achieved an almost mythical status among collectors and critics, and it has a habit of making the exalted seem routine.
Jeb Dunnuck, The Wine Advocate, and James Suckling all awarded this one 99 points. Dunnuck, in his encomium of a review, reserved special praise for the "blockbuster bouquet of honeyed tangerines, tart apricots, liquid rocks, white flowers, and honeysuckle." Suckling likened the experience of drinking it to "an extravagance."
For this and for every d'Yquem, the route from soil to bottle is arguably the most painstaking in the entire world of wine.
Every grape used is hand-selected, with vignerons making as many as 11 passes through the vineyard over two months of harvest to ensure that only the most perfect grapes are used.
The result of all this exquisite meticulousness?
Each vine produces but one glass of Sauternes a year. One.
The warm, dry summer in Bordeaux, in 2016, led to wines of both unusual ripeness and uncommon finesse. And this Sauternes, in coupling a remarkable concentration with an almost majestic structure, has proven itself to be not just one of the best in its class, but among the best in the entire show: an extraordinary star in a vintage of greats.
