Château de Beaucastel has long been among the most revered Châteauneuf-du-Pape producers; Wine Spectator claims the prestigious estate “stands as arguably the finest representation of the Southern Rhône's most prestigious appellation.” Château de Beaucastel has built a reputation on its powerful and seductive, full-bodied wines that offer complexity alongside balance and structure. Today, we’re honored to present the estate’s perfectly aged 2004 Châteauneuf-du-Pape library release, a must-have for any wine collector’s cellar.  Our allocation is limited, so act soon to collect this 17-year aged gem from one of the most celebrated wineries of the Rhône Valley!

Located in the northeast of the elite Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, Beaucastel is one of the most respected estates in the region and also one of the oldest estates with a historical land-purchase record dating back as early as 1549. The estate is 100% family owned and expertly operated by the winemaking dynasty of the Perrin family, which has been associated with the estate since 1909, when Pierre Tramier transferred control to his son-in-law, Pierre Perrin. Pierre in turn passed the mantle to his son, Jacques Perrin, who expanded the vineyard holdings and made the château a globally recognized name. Jacques was a visionary who resurrected a variety that had virtually disappeared from the appellation, Mourvèdre, when 90% of the plantings in the southern Rhône were Grenache. To this day most Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine producers use the Grenache grape variety predominantly, while Beaucastel continues to use a large proportion of Mourvèdre. And at a time when it was considered almost heretical, Jacques also steered the estate in the direction of organic and biodynamic farming; their land has been cultivated organically since 1950 and biodynamically since 1974.

At harvest, the grapes are hand-picked and carefully sorted, and each of the 13 grape varieties are vinified separately in foudre. The wine is carefully blended and aged in oak barrels for one year. The final blend is then bottled, and the bottles spend another year of aging at the château. The art of blending these 13 grapes has been passed down from one generation to the next, and today the torch is carried by Jacques’ sons, Jean-Pierre and François. They are joined by the fifth generation of Perrins, all of whom work together to preserve the heritage of Château de Beaucastel wines.
