Meet the President of Maison de Venoge, Gilles de la Bastière. We recently sat down with Gilles to discuss the 2014 Grand Vin de Princes Champagnes and today's stunning stemware set.

There’s a common misconception that famed Benedictine monk Dom Pérignon invented the sparkling wine we know today as Champagne. Ironically, much of Dom Pérignon’s time was spent trying to determine how to keep the bubbles out of the wine, which was seen as a common flaw in 17th century Champagne wines. This bubbly “flaw” soon became not only desired, but the unique signature of Champagne wines. It didn’t take long for the world to fall in love with this effervescence, and Champagne eventually became the official beverage of choice for nobility and to commemorate important occasions. Of course, to this day Champagne remains the world’s official celebratory beverage, though many sommeliers and wine enthusiasts also sing its praises for food pairings and collectibility, especially the coveted vintage-dated cuvées. Cue today’s offer: two stunning 2014 releases from Champagne de Venoge—the 96-point Princes Blanc de Blancs and 97-point Rosé (both sub-$100!). Along with special Concierge pricing more than 30% off, we also have the unique opportunity to present a set of remarkable stemware, specially crafted to showcase the depth and finesse of de Venoge Champagne.

While flutes or coupes used to be de rigueur, there’s been a big movement among Champagne producers and aficionados to serve Champagne in a regular wine glass, or better yet, specially designed tulip-shaped stemware. The wider mouth of the de Venoge Louis XV tulip glass better suits the richness of Champagne, allowing the imbiber to fully appreciate the aromas and nuance while still preserving that mesmerizing perlage of bubbles. On the foot of each glass, you will find an etching of the original signature of King Louis XV, who authorized the bottling and transport of Champagne in glass bottles (an historic event that ushered in the birth of sparkling Champagne as we know it). This set of six glasses comes in beautiful packaging and will forever change the way you enjoy Champagne.

From the beginning, de Venoge has maintained the highest standards for quality during the entire winemaking process: grapes sourced from the best crus, only free-run and first-press juice, long aging periods that far surpass legal requirements, and low dosage to allow plot and vineyard individuality to shine through. Although the vast majority of Champagne houses have a “house” style, it’s the top vintage cuvées that truly speak to the remarkable and varied terroir of the region. Today’s 2014 Blanc de Blancs is 100% Chardonnay sourced exclusively from Grand and Premier Cru vineyards within Mesnil-sur-Oger and Trépail. The wine is textured and full on the palate, and showcases gorgeous minerality and elegance; flavors weave between notes of yellow apple, brioche, and almond. The 2014 Princes Rosé is 100% Pinot Noir from Montagne de Reims and Les Riceys. Incredibly aromatic, the wine offers up layers of nuance and complexity with notes of strawberry, mint, rose petal, and cooking spice. This is an incredible, showshopping duo complete with the glassware it’s meant to have. Secure your order today!
