When it comes to Champagne, there’s no doubt that one of the reference points for wine lovers is Bollinger’s La Grande Année. Embodying the artisanal expertise of one of the world’s most iconic luxury brands, the prestigious La Grande Année is only produced from an exceptional harvest of a single year. With only 2% of all Champagne production devoted to vintage bottlings, La Grande Année easily stands out among most for its abundant use of Pinot Noir, exclusively vinified in small oak barrels averaging 20 years old. Designed to express the character of the harvest, the 2012 bottling is one of the most anticipated releases for collectors around the world as 2012 is the premium vintage of the 21st century for Pinot Noir in Champagne—the “best since 1952” (Decanter). Today we’re providing our Concierge customers the first crack at this highly anticipated debut with special Concierge pricing that brings each bottle to under $140 with purchases of three or more!

Founded in 1829, Bollinger today owns 178 hectares of vineyards, 85% of which are classified Grand or Premier cru. Bollinger is one of the only premium Champagne houses to produce the majority of their own grapes for their blends, Pinot Noir predominates—a demanding grape variety with an intense character that forms the backbone of the Bollinger style, including the rare La Grande Année. The cépage of the 2012 La Grande Année is a classic 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay, with grapes coming from 21 crus including Aÿ and Verzenay for the Pinot Noir as well as Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oiry for the Chardonnay. The grapes are entirely fermented in small oak barrels averaging 20 years old and the wine is bottled under cork (rather than the typical crowned seal) and cellared for more than 6 years on the lees—more than twice the time required for vintage Champagne. Riddled and disgorged by hand, the wine's dosage is a moderate 8 grams per liter, making this an exceptionally dry style of Champagne.

Not produced since the 2008 vintage, La Grande Année is typically golden in color—showing signs of the wine’s maturity and adding to its complexity. Unlike the 2008’s understated appeal, the 2012 is a lush and unashamedly hedonistic expression. Rich and full on the palate, the wine showcases a creamy effervescence with aromas of apricot, almond and hazelnut complimented by a long, dense and silky finish. A new bottle shape was introduced for the 2008 vintage consisting of a slimmed-down, graceful neck which limits the amount of oxygen in bottle and contributes to the wine having greater ageability. With exceptional texture and structure, this wine is built for the long haul. Don’t miss your chance to add this iconic collector’s item before this first chance offer ends!
