BARDDSTOWN BOURBON COMPANY

COLLABORATIVE SERIES SILVER OAK EDITION

BARDSTOWN, KENTUCKY

Why Buy: This high-octane (108 proof) bourbon from the blending masters at Bardstown Bourbon Company was fashioned from — count 'em — six different bourbons, including a 14 year, two 12 years, and two 10 years, and finished in grand style in Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon barrels, a 17-month maturation that provides it a final layer of  sophistication and depth. The result? A much-coveted collectible, and the latest chapter in their highly-acclaimed Collaborative Series.

Our Tasting Notes: There is power here, undeniably, but this is a highly expressive bourbon, too, and right from the start it impresses you with its bright, delicate notes of baked strawberry and plum, which gently segue into hints of roasted nuts, cinnamon, and cocoa. The palate is a full-bodied experience of caramel and fig, and takes its own sweet time unfurling itself. The finish, savory and spicy, balances oak and blackberry with a subtle tannic edge – as befitting its Cabernet barrel finishing.

The Story: Bardstown Bourbon Company, nestled in the heart of Kentucky's bourbon country, has quickly established itself as a force to be reckoned with in the world of craft spirits. Founded in 2014, they've turned heads with their innovative approach to distilling and blending, epitomized by their Collaborative Series. This particular expression is a partnership with Silver Oak, a name that has been synonymous with premium California Cabernet Sauvignon for more than half a century. Silver Oak's commitment to oak aging – they're one of the few wineries to own and operate their own cooperage – made them an ideal partner for a bourbon bent on pushing boundaries. The magic happens when Bardstown's custom blend of bourbons meets Silver Oak's carefully curated barrels. For 17 months, the whiskey rests in these wine-seasoned vessels, absorbing subtle nuances of fruit and tannin that complement and elevate the bourbon's natural character. This collaboration isn't just about creating a unique flavor profile; it's a testament to the shared values of craftsmanship and innovation that define both Bardstown and Silver Oak.

The Specs: This bourbon amounts to a tour of the Bourbon States of America, weaving together as it does six distinct bourbons from five different states:

25% Tennessee 12-year (84% corn, 8% rye, 8% malted barley)
23% Kentucky 10-year (78% corn, 13% rye, 9% malted barley)
22% Indiana 9-year (75% corn, 21% rye, 4% malted barley)
15% Kentucky 10-year (78% corn, 10% rye, 12% malted barley)
10% Georgia 12-year (80% corn, 10% rye, 5% wheat, 5% malted barley)
5% Kentucky 14-year (undisclosed mash bill)

After blending, the bourbon spends 17 months in Silver Oak Cabernet barrels before being bottled at a robust 108 proof.

ABV: 54% (108 proof).

What to Pair It With: While this bourbon shines in cocktails, it's equally at home as a sipper. Try it neat alongside a plate of aged cheddar and dark chocolate for a decadent flavor experience. Come dinner time, its bold profile stands up beautifully to grilled steaks or slow-cooked BBQ.

Fun Fact: Silver Oak is so committed to the quality of its barrels that in 2015, it purchased its own cooperage in Missouri, ensuring complete control over every step of the barrel production process.
