AMRUT DISTILLERIES SINGLE MALT WHISKY

BENGALURU, INDIA

In a world dominated by tradition, it’s understandable that whisky experts have shied away from change and innovation. But as the demand for whisky continues to rise, we’ve seen the pendulum swing in the direction of innovation, with interest skyrocketing to discover new and exciting whiskies from across the globe. One such captivating area is India, which has the distinction of consuming more whisky than any other country, and it is Amrut Distilleries and their cutting edge whiskies that are breaking the mold and leading the charge. Producing India’s first Single Malt, it was the release of their Amrut Fusion in 2009 that really shook up the international whisky order, scoring 97 out of 100 from Jim Murray, who recognized it in his Whisky Bible as the third best whisky in the world. Since then, Amrut has continued to innovate and inspire, producing limited edition bottlings that consistently garner awards and accolades, including their Amrut Spectrum, which was named World Whisky of the Year by Whisky Advocate in 2016, selling out in no time.

Founded in 1948, Amrut Distilleries, whose name can be translated to “nectar of the gods,” is as old as the history of independent India itself, growing in stature and size since its inception. Producing mainly rum since the 1960s, it was in the 1980s that Amrut began experimenting with Malts in order to produce world class whiskies. Using Indian malted barley grown at the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains – 3,000 feet above sea level – Amrut took 20 years of research to perfect the spirit and is now one of the most awarded whisky brands in the entire world. And like the effects of warm climate on Kentucky Bourbon, the warm climate of India helps speed up the ageing process as their Amrut whiskies mature in cask. With a core of consistent expressions produced every year, Amrut began to venture into special, limited bottlings and editions of whiskies that have had whisky lovers everywhere salivating. Today, we were fortunate to secure 20 six-packs each of their small batch Amrut Naarangi, recently named India's best 2018 Single Malt Whisky by the World Whiskies Awards, as well as their newest limited bottling, Amrut Madeira Cask Finish, India’s first whisky to use barrels from the Portuguese island.

The Amrut Naarangi is an experimental Single Malt that uses barrels from Oloroso Sherry seasoned with orange peel that are filled with Amrut’s Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky (already aged 3 to 4 years) and matured for an additional three years and bottled at 100 proof. The Amrut Single Malt Madeira Cask Finish uses handpicked barrels from Madeira, the first of its kind from India, and is also bottled at 100 proof – with only 4800 bottles produced and just 200 six-packs initially available for the entire US market. With each whisky having a limited allocation and both at a special Concierge Sales price, we cannot stress enough the sense of urgency you will need to secure your orders as we will sell out. Grab your bottles before they’re gone!
