AMICI CELLARS CHARDONNAY, CHARLES HEINTZ VINEYARD

RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY, CALIFORNIA 2015

We all know the saying "wine is made in the vineyard," and in the case of the Charles Heintz Vineyard on California's Sonoma Coast, this statement is emblematized by the wines produced there. Located just east of the town of Occidental, the vineyard is legendary - one of the region's oldest historic sites, producing world renowned Chardonnays with unrivaled richness, acidity and minerality. Consequently, it comes as no surprise that some of the most iconic names in California winemaking have chosen to showcase this particular vineyard site as part of their repertoire of extremely limited production bottlings. With cult favorites like Ceritas, Littorai, LIOCO, Freeman, Landmark, Moone-Tsai and Amici crafting some of the most notable California Chardonnays on the market (usually only sold through winery mailings lists) from this renowned vineyard, we have a special treat for our Concierge customers today. We have acquired a very limited quantity of the 95-Point 2015 Amici 'Charles Heintz Vineyard' Chardonnay, and for one week we're offering it for the best price in the country. This wine is available on a first come, first serve basis, and will not be available in stores. As quantities are extremely limited, we suggest acting quickly to take advantage of this limited time offer!

Purchased in 1912 by Charles Heintz's grandparents, the vineyard was first planted to Zinfandel more than a century ago. The vineyard thrived until prohibition when the vines were ripped out and replanted to vegetables and apples - a state in which it remained until 1980 when Charles Heintz replanted the land to Chardonnay with the assistance of Warren Dutton. Its location at 900 feet in elevation above the fog line on the second ridge inland from the Pacific Ocean made for an idyllic location for Chardonnay. Despite conventional wisdom at the time, the abundant sunshine and classic Goldridge sandy loam soils paired with the cool ocean breezes and made the perfect home for Chardonnay with inherent richness and acidity. Today, these three-decade old vines are some of the oldest Chardonnay Vineyards on the Sonoma Coast. As older vines tend to produce fewer bunches and ripen more slowly, the grapes have the time to develop a complex myriad of flavors and aromas, and offer an intense concentration unrivaled by the fruit of younger vines. The result is a wine of outstanding quality - fully displaying the nature of Chardonnay and what the varietal is capable of. Exuding a graceful balance between richness and intensity of old vine fruit with the structure and acidity of the great Sonoma Coast, the vineyard continues to be the source of superbly crafted, rockstar-status wines that continue to garnish 90+ points year after year, and today's 2015 Amici Charles Heintz Vineyard stays true to form with a 95-Point score and rave review from Jeb Dunnick.
