ALTESINO, BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO

TUSCANY, ITALY 2018

Brunello season is upon us, and that means our thoughts turn to Altesino.

And we're by no means alone.

James Suckling has rightly hailed Altesino as one of the "greatest names in Tuscan wine," and its annual releases of Brunello are among the mostly hotly-anticipated new wines by collectors around the globe.

Of course, that means that bottles are increasingly hard to come by in the marketplace, which is why we're so pumped to have just secured a small allocation of their 95-point 2018 Brunello di Montalcino.

We're even more pumped to be able to bring it to you, our Concierge Family, for a best price of less than $60 a bottle!

Suckling called it a wine of "fantastic intensity," with "concentrated hazelnut, chocolate and dark berry aromas alongside dried flower and dried orange undertones," "powerful yet integrated tannins," and "excellent structural integrity."

It's no secret why Altesino's wines are so good, and so consistent from year to year.

It is unapologetically throwback in its methods, leaning on time-honored practices that are extremely labor-intensive, slow, and low-yielding — inefficiencies that would bring the wrath of the CEO or the stakeholders in any other business, but which in the world of wine are deeply prized and admired, at least among the most discerning.

But if Altesino is a stalwart of tradition, it is not hidebound in its ways, and in fact has long been an innovator. It was the first Tuscan estate to use barriques, and it was also one of the forerunners of the “cru” concept in Italy. Fifty hectares of vines extend over six of these crus, which are at the heart of the estate's production.

Jancis Robinson, in her recent survey of 2018 Brunellos, remarked that many of the best of the vintage displayed an appealing "freshness" in the glass, and we see this quality, for sure, in the Altesino. At the same time, it must be said that this is a classically-styled Brunello. Sourced from the estate's most distinctive vineyards (Altesino, Castelnuovo dell'Abate, Macina, and Pianezzine) and matured for up to 42 months in Slavonian oak barrels prior to bottling, it has all the opulence you want from a full-bodied red, but with the marvelous, softening balance that the best Brunellos often bring.

Don't miss out on this special opportunity to secure the wines of one of Tuscany's most celebrated estates, and at prices so tempting you really should be thinking in terms of case, or cases.

But hurry; our allocation is limited, and Brunellos go fast!
