If there were grand cru vineyards in Napa Valley, those owned and managed by Andy Beckstoffer would easily qualify, with vineyards such as his To Kalon, Las Piedras, Dr. Crane and Georges III largely considered some of Napa’s greatest, producing some of the most profound, highly sought after wines in the region. In regards to his famous Georges III Vineyard, formerly Beaulieu Ranch #3 developed by Georges de Latour and the source for Andre Tchelistcheff’s Rutherford Cabernets of Beaulieu Vineyards, Beckstoffer has shared its wealth with some of Napa’s most iconic names, including Schrader, Fairchild, Alpha Omega, Caymus and Staglin. The excellence of Beckstoffer and his vineyard management is renowned and the immense quality of his grapes extends to the smaller, boutique wineries that he’s developed relationships with over the years, including today’s winery, Adobe Road. Their knockout 2013 Beckstoffer Georges III F-Block is an exemplary expression of one of Rutherford’s prime vineyards and headlines today’s Mix & Match offer. In addition to the 2013 F-Block, we are excited to offer Adobe Road’s newly released 2016 Redline, a delicious, supple red blend of some of the best grapes grown throughout Napa and Sonoma that complements the intensity of the Beckstoffer Cabernet.
Adobe Road was started in 2002 by professional race car driver Kevin Buckler along with his wife, Debra. They immediately understood that to source the best grapes from both Napa and Sonoma, it was important to nurture their relationships with California’s most renowned and passionate growers, including Andy Beckstoffer. Their relationship with him led to fruit from several parcels of vineyards in Rutherford from Georges III, including the F-Block. Adjacent to Caymus and between Conn Creek and the Silverado Trail, this block is planted exclusively with Cabernet Sauvignon clone 337 and takes advantage of the well-draining, gravelly soils as well as its ideal sun exposure, which produces rich, fruit-intense wines with amazing structure. For the 2013, there’s an abundance of deeply concentrated red fruit complemented by French oak aging, with tannins that are mellow and fine-grained, exhibiting the celebrated “Rutherford dust.”
For the 2016 Redline, Kevin and Debra use Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Malbec and Petite Sirah from Napa, with Syrah from Sonoma and have produced a wonderfully approachable wine that is an homage to Kevin’s love for cars and racing. Don’t let this blend fool you, as it is a serious wine recently garnering a 90-point review from Wine Spectator, with James Laube calling it “charming and driven.” It’s bursting with blackberries and dark cherries, with nuances of coffee and chocolate, and is an exceptional value that’s drinkable now while you hold onto the F-Block. We recommend that you take advantage of today’s offer of up to 20% off, as our allocations on both wines is limited and are sure to sell out quickly.
