2024 VINTAGE PORT RELEASES

DOURO, PORTUGAL

How incredible was the 2024 vintage in Douro?

So incredible that the region’s winemakers have made the first general vintage declaration in 7 years — a major event that happens only when the major Douro Port houses come together to decide that the harvest merits the status of “classic.”

We almost never offer this many Ports from a vintage, but 2024 is THAT special, and we thought it would be only right and proper to create a marketplace for you to shop the best of what looks to be an immortal vintage.

The hype that’s been building about them in the wine world for most of the past year is real. Port generally doesn't come in for scores the way that Bordeaux and Burgundy do, but check out the gaudy numbers from this luminous line-up — all from the renowned Symington family of wines: one 99-pointer, four 97-pointers, and two 95-pointers.

We can happily report: these wines are that good, with all the concentration and intensity you're looking for, but also the kind of grace notes that bring definition and elegance … and that make a vintage port sing.

The Wine Advocate reviewed most of this roster, and reserved its loftiest praise for Graham's Stone Terraces, a 99-pointer it called “truly a super Graham's” — the most aromatic and refined expression of the entire 2024 lineup, with a soft, supple palate and balance to spare. The 97-pointers drew enthusiastic reviews, too, with the assessments often edging into rapture. Dow's was hailed as "a great wine" of brooding structure, with graphite, hints of chocolate, and that distinctive, haunting violet note that has long been its signature. Quinta do Vesúvio, a wine “full of energy and tension," delivered remarkable concentration with bright acidity and an opulent palate that stayed beautifully poised. The Vesúvio Capela was right there with it, a wine with distinctive lavender and pine-needle aromatics, an explosive palate, and "well-armed tannins.” As for the regular Graham's bottling, it earned admiration for being a "really delicious" wine born of minimal yields, with stunning aromatics, generous power, and a “velvety” palate.

These wines are keepers, in every sense of the word: built for decades of cellar aging and among the most coveted fortified wines in the world.

And they for sure won’t stick around here for long; vintage port at this level never does

So if you've ever wanted to acquire a bottle or two for your cellar — or to deepen the collection you already have — this is the moment. The next general declaration could be seven years away. Or longer.
