Often referred to as the Latour of Saint-Estèphe, Château Montrose is a famed 'Super Second' whose dense, powerful, age-worthy wines can stand beside many of its elite First Growth companions. We recommended their highly rated 2018 vintage in our Bordeaux futures report earlier this year, and today are offering another knockout vintage that’s worth your attention. The 2005 Montrose is “the best example of the 2005 that I have tasted […] the bouquet is extremely detailed, displaying more red berry fruit compared to the 2010 Montrose that leans towards black. A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 3.5% Cabernet Franc and 0.5% Petit Verdot, the wine garnered up to 97 points from critics upon release and subsequent tastings have reaffirmed their initial impressions. 2005 was the last vintage under the ownership of the Charmolüe family, who steadily enhanced Montrose’s reputation over three generations.
