2021 Poggio Scalette 'Pianatonaia'

The 2021 Piantonaia, the estate's pure Merlot, is superb. In fact, the 2021 might be the best edition I have tasted. A rush of dark red/purplish fruit, blood orange, pomegranate and spice saturates the palate, lifted by bright acids that lend energy. I admire the wine's depth, textural intensity and overall balance. The only real question is why all vintages aren't more like this.
