2021 Penfolds Bin 600 Cabernet-Shiraz

94 POINTS: Larger in stature and attitude than an Australian version of a Cabernet+Shiraz blend, this Californian 'claret', as seen through the Penfolds prism, becomes a more curious beast with each passing vintage. Vines imported from the Barossa’s historic Kalimna vineyard have now reached maturity in the Napa, at Creston 600 Ranch (now called the Camattat Hills Vineyard), and produce rich fruit of distinction. The 85% Cabernet Sauvignon component is typically robust and assertive, with pronounced blackberry and bramble, but the 15% Shiraz addition now plays a stronger role in the flavour profile, adding plush red berry pleasure and red liquorice high notes.
