2008 Giacomo Borgogno & Figli Barolo Riserva DOCG

94 POINTS: Since 2008, when the Farinetti family acquired the historic Borgogno estate, the Riserva has been crafted from specific parcels within the Cannubi, Liste and Fossati MGAs in Barolo. Tasted from magnum earlier this year at a 2008 Riserva retrospective, it stood out for its surprising, almost youthful exuberance. Still shockingly ruby and fresh in minty, peppery aromas, it's rich for the vintage but earthy and mineral-driven rather than sweet, boasting a ton of stuffing to pad out that firm, classic, satisfying structure. Plenty there for the next decade.
