Agustin Huneeus, the Chilean proprietor behind cult Napa Valley wine Quintessa, is also the force behind Faust: originally created as a second label Cabernet Sauvignon that has developed its own loyal following over the past few vintages. With a wine career spanning more than 50 years, Huneeus and wife Valeria are committed to producing wines with varietal character that exemplify their respective regions and terroirs. Faust’s 2016 Salvation is the newest vintage of a limited-release red blend that has an immediate approachability that’s rare among Napa Valley reds with this structure and concentration. Any while many wines of this caliber easily command more than $100 a bottle, Salvation has a Concierge price below $60 to make the deal even sweeter.

Though Faust is primarily known for premium Cabernet Sauvignon, winemaker David Jelinek was struck by the quality of the Merlot and Syrah grown in Faust’s Coombsville estate vineyard. He recognized the potential of these grapes to create a memorable blend and from there the Salvation project was born. The 2016 sees 22 months in French oak, 30% of which is new, and is an equal blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (sourced from mountainside vineyards on Atlas Peak and Howell Mountain) and Merlot and Syrah from Faust’s Coombsville vineyard. Though the wine continues to build its reputation and acclaim, it remains a small passion project for the winery; only 755 cases were produced of the 2016 vintage.
