DOMINUS ESTATE

NAPA VALLEY, CALIFORNIA 2015

With Dominus opting not to release a 2022 vintage, we asked them to open their vaults to us, and whoa, and wow, what a back-vintage bounty: their triple 100-point 2021; their triple 100-point 2015 vintage (in a rare signed six-pack case); their 100-point 2012 vintage: and their 97-point Napanook 2021, their so-called "second wine" and an absolute steal of a deal at $95 a bottle.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire some of Napa's most sought-after wines — wines that caused the critics to run out of superlatives.

"Legendary ... wine simply doesn't get any better," Jeb Dunnuck declared of the "voluptuously textured" 2021 vintage, and he was no less effusive about the 2015 vintage, a "flawless, perfect wine as well as a legend in the making … [an] incredible mix of elegance and power." And Vinous, likewise, held back nothing in its swoon of a review of the 2012 vintage: "very clearly one of the wines of the year … deep and vibrant, with terrific freshness. … Magnificent." As for the 2021 Napanook, their second wine (but which would be most estates' crowning achievement), Suckling reveled in its "seamless tannins" and "velvety texture" — remarkable for a wine at this level.

Incredible as these accolades are, for director Christian Moueix, all of this has come to be — well, just the way things are.

We expect perfection of him.

And half-wonder, some of us, if he has made some sort of Faustian bargain.

How else to explain his track record over the years, beginning with his transformation of Château Petrus into a global icon. Since establishing Dominus in 1983, he's created a stunning fusion of European finesse and Napa power, crafting wines that feel both classic and distinctly Californian. In an era where many Napa producers chase ripeness above all else, Moueix stands firm in his commitment to balance and restraint.

The cornerstone of his approach? Dry farming — a practice almost unheard of in sun-drenched Napa. By denying the vines irrigation, Moueix forces them to struggle, sending roots deep into the volcanic soil at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains. The result: fruit with extraordinary complexity and terroir specificity.

In the glass, this translates to Cabernets that defy typical Napa stereotypes — intense without heaviness, powerful without being ponderous, and remarkably fresh despite their concentration. Each vintage exhibits that signature Dominus balance: structured enough for decades of aging, yet offering abundant pleasure in their youth.

Folks, these are wines you really, really don’t want to miss out on.

And, as always, rest assured that we source them directly from the estate, to ensure perfect provenance. So don’t hesitate to jump on these. But do it quickly — Dominus has been known to vanish from here in a matter of hours.
